European Youth Capital 2028: Applications now open!
Is your city ready to #YouthUp in 2028? The European Youth Forum invites local authorities to apply for the European Youth Capital (EYC) title, a unique opportunity to empower young people, amplify their voices, and strengthen European identity.
What is the European Youth Capital?
Each year, one European city is awarded the title of European Youth Capital, becoming a hub for youth participation and innovation. Since its launch in 2009, the initiative has fostered dynamic city ecosystems where young people take centre stage, contributing fresh ideas, bolstering local democracy, and driving positive change in their communities.
For one year, the winning city works hand-in-hand with young people to celebrate their contributions, implement innovative projects, and spotlight its commitment to youth rights and inclusion. Beyond the title, the initiative builds lasting connections with other European cities focused on prioritising their young residents.
Why apply?
Being a European Youth Capital is more than a title—it’s a transformative journey for both young people and municipalities. Benefits include:
Increased youth participation: Engage young residents in shaping the city’s social, economic, and cultural life.
Stronger community ties: Foster collaboration between youth and decision-makers.
European visibility: Highlight your city’s commitment to youth and inspire others across Europe.
Expert feedback: Receive valuable guidance on improving your proposals during the application process.
Who can apply?
The competition is open to local authorities from Council of Europe Member States that are parties to the European Cultural Convention.
